Elven female a la Chinese Brush...

I have mutilated this beautiful art form as well as Tolkein's name! No really, this is from January 2003, so it's... 2 years old? But I never uploaded here because I wasn't a member back then, hehe. It was my first try at Chinese Brush, after I bought a bunch of materials and books. I still like it, actually, and seeing it makes me want to try some more Chinese brush...

Thanks. I like using different media, gives variety and I like knowing that I'm not slave to one medium only.

i like this one. definitely the different line weights gave it more "depth" to it, and what not rather than simple lines with no weight

You should try it, probablemente te sale mejor que a mi!!! jeje, y anyway, alla en los estados ofrecen clases para este tipo de cosa, o talleres so, tu tienes mejores opciones que yo, a lo mejor. A verigua a ver, si quieres, si dan clases de chinese brush en algun lugar cerca de it.

you should "study abroad" in my school. apparently, penn state has one of the best graphic design programs. i'm going to see if there is a class here on campus. i know that for my basic drawing class, i did some india ink sketches.

Ah, nope. I've decided not to go to the US to study, or for anything at all really. At least not for the moment. I mean, sure, there are no career options here for what I plan on doing, so I must make my own career options, si no, I would have to go to the US, but that is my last choice at the moment. There are too many things that will happen over here, and I plan on being here when they happen

I also decided not to get a Master's Degree because it's not worth it. At least here, the way the industry works is by how good you are, not how much you studied. There are people that took 2 year courses working better jobs than me right now, and while having a Bachellor's in Arts is a big plus for me, having an Master's is useless, since I will not get paid more, not even if I had a Doctorate. I know, I have Profs. with Doctor's in Graphic Arts and they still have to work more than one job. It's all about how good you are and how up to date you are. I dunno, I will continue to take classes because I really need to home my drawing/illustrating skills and that's not a class taught here, so I'll have to take courses like en la Liga de Arte, o Artes Plasticas, but nothing for a degree. Eep! I talk too much, sorry.

If I continue on with gradsxhool, its because I plan to get a masters on something else. If the school allows this, I want to get my BS in graphic desing, & my BA or BFAin phoyography and printmaking. thereforem i'd just aim to get a masters in photography and/or print. Plus, I'm not a GD major yet, after typography this semester, I have to submit a portfolio to get into the program. Thats how everything up here works, turn in a final portfolio if you wanna go to the next class. I think it's good that way,,,,,adds alor on unevessary pressure sometimes.....but, i'll be doing alot of that is I want to become a professional artist. Sometimes your resume won't be as important as you porfolio or portfolio presentation

Meh, printmaking, that's what I'm being trained to do. Graphic Arts includes both graphic design and printmaking, since it's all about the whole process. However, you know, I don't want to work for a printing press, I don't want to work a press (as fascinating as they might be

) I want to be the person making the designs the printing press is printing. Heeh. No really, I want my own clothing line, I want to be a design company like... I dunno, Hurley or something. I decided that if I did have to work in a printing press, I would work as a serigraphy artist, or designer, but nothing more. I really like serigraphy, so I think I'm going to go that way, mixing digital work with the output option being serigraphy, instead of offset printing.

Anyways, I don't really want to go for a semester, because this is my last one, and since we work in trimesters it would be conflicting. It's conflicting enough with Rio Piedras, and that's the same system. One semester is two trimesters that I would miss, and since I'm close to finishing, two trimesters is too much. I only have 3 left to go. I'm done with practically everything this trimester, then in April I only have 3 classes, then I have to wait for Septemeber for the one class, and then again January for the last class, then I'd be done. Unless I can convince them to give the class in the summer or something, that would be great, then I'd be done earlier. Heeh.

When you graduate, are you going to stay or come here? We could work together.

I don't want to work for the printing press either, but I do want to have one of my own. I want to do Graphic Design. and I don't want to limit my art to just digital. I want to actually use my hands, get them dirty, include my own hand-drawn drawings, and create my own fonts, etc. Hell, the head of the graphic desing program here hardly ever uses a computer for his designs. He always draws them, he does print making. He usually uses the computer for font types. [here's one of his posters]. He does alot of socio-political art for himself, and he sometimes publishes it; and a Romeo and Juliet Poster; series of posters he's done for the Arts Festival in Central PA , etc. All by hand. I want to do things by hand too. It's going to be like chemical photography, they're both going to get lost in this digitalized world. I see the world in pixels, already! Which is why I'm also taking printmaking. That's was like "ye olde graphique design" the roots, the 'old skool' I've thought about many things, I want to be a poster designer, or a book cover/cd cover/dvd cover designer. do some freelancing websites on the side. designing the inside of magazines. We did some basic use of QuarkXpress, and I liked it. The whole "design a newsletter for a company and you have to use only 3 colors and what not" - i loved it. We get to do all that here, I haven't taken any "real" graphic design courses yet cause I'm not in the program. I'm now taking typography . . . . my professor from last year thinks that I have a chance of getting in. I'll be talking to him so that he can help me on mounting my portfolio, putting it together and what not. I'm pretty sure that, if I do get in, I'll also come to him for my internship portfolios, and my graduation portfolio. Talking crazy here: maybe I'll intern for the Nintendo, US. Even if it just involves getting their coffees.

I dunno what I"m doing after I graduate. I was planning on moving to Seattle. It's a good place to become known with art. I don't particularly want to go to NYC for the following reasons: all artists go to NYC, and then they complain that they don't have a job becuase they're all taken, so they end up being the stereotypical starving artist; perhaps move to Boston. Nadia said she was going to CA, it'd be cool if I lived in Washington, then we could take roadtrips to each other's house

If you can keep up with my ambitions, of course we can have a company

I dunno, if You wanna have yet another surfing company in the market, I'd suggest you get Fabi in on it too, she's after all a fashion designer.

I really like it. I can't really give much critiques because you are the one who was teaching me to use the chinese brushes.

Chinese brushes are so hard to control IMO XD It looks wonderful the way you've done it though! *thumbs up*

err... I probably wrote that wrong. They are hard to control, it's been a while since I last used them, I tried to paint some bamboo stalks with leaves and it was hard, could only get it after the... 6th or 7th try... and not counting the stroke warm-ups in scrap paper.
